Place Items on Reserve
The library offers two options for course reserves: Library Reserves and Electronic Reserves (eReserves).
About Library Reserves
-
Faculty may place Bentley Library materials and personal copies of items on reserve.
-
Library reserves may include books, films, audiobooks, and other relevant information to support classroom instruction.
-
Faculty should bring items to the Library Services Desk to be processed. Items may be placed on reserve for two-hour loan library use only, 24 hour loan, or three-day loan.
-
Reserves may be checked out at the Library Services Desk.
Use the online catalog to search for Library Reserves. You may search by instructor's name or course code.
Items must be placed on reserve each semester they are needed; there is no "automatic" renewal. This is to comply with fair use guidelines, and to ensure that materials placed on reserve (and thus unavailable to the Bentley community) are still needed for a particular class.
Films must have a limited period with a beginning and ending date during the course of the semester.
Films may also be requested for a specific date for classroom showing by email or calling 781.891.2168.
About e-Reserves
Electronic reserves, also known as eReserves, allow instructors to make journal articles or book chapters available online via their Blackboard course sites.
For all questions about reserves please contact the Library Services Desk at 781.891.2168.
Making Print Materials (Book Chapters or Articles) Available in Blackboard:
Library staff can assist with eReserves by scanning your items and placing them in your Blackboard site. Please bring original items (or good quality photocopies) to the Library Services Desk. All scanned materials will be saved in PDF format. For further assistance please e-mail libraryservices@bentley.edu or call 781.891.2168.
To comply with copyright laws, faculty members must resubmit materials placed on e-Reserve each semester they are used. For a primer on copyright law and fair use, please visit the University of Texas System's "Fair use and copyrighted materials"©.
Using Persistent Links to Make Online Database Articles Available in Blackboard:
Certain library databases (e.g. EBSCO, ProQuest, Infotrac, and JSTOR) offer "persistent" links to articles that can be accessed for several years. You can create links to these articles in your Blackboard site with the comfort of knowing that copyright permission and royalties are covered by Bentley's site license.
For assistance with the databases and creating persistent links please contact the Reference Desk at 781.891.2300 or refdesk@bentley.edu.
