Schedule a Research Instruction Session
Research instruction sessions are designed to help students develop the ability to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively. Sessions can range from a targeted class on subject-specific resources to an overview of constructing successful search strategies. The reference staff encourages you to integrate library instruction into your classes. We are happy to work with you to design an instruction session that will meet the specific needs of your class.
Instruction Policies:
- Sessions normally take place during scheduled class periods in the library's Research Instruction Center
- Please allow at least ten days' advance notice to schedule a session.
- Faculty should plan to attend the whole session with their students. By attending, faculty members reinforce the importance of library instruction, and can make connections to larger course goals and themes. If you are unable to schedule an instruction session, we encourage your students to make individual appointments with reference librarians throughout the semester
- Instruction sessions are most effective when tied to a particular assignment or project. This increases the session's relevance and students' retention of the concepts presented.
To schedule a research instruction session for your class, please use our Library Instruction Request Form. For more in-depth information about information literacy, please see our Information Literacy and Instruction online research guide.
If you have any questions, or if you are interested in incorporating information literacy into your syllabus, building library research into an assignment, or collaborating with a librarian for the duration of a whole course, please contact Liz Galoozis, Coordinator of User Education, at 781.891.2692 or egaloozis@bentley.edu. You may also contact your departmental library liaison.
Research Instruction and Assistance for Faculty and Staff
Are you looking to refresh your knowledge about the library's resources? Would you like to learn more about one of our databases? We would be happy to schedule library instruction for you on an individual or departmental basis, either in the Research Instruction Center (RIC) or in your own office. Please contact either your departmental library liaison or Liz Galoozis at 781.891.2692 or egaloozis@bentley.edu for more information.
Reserving the RIC for other non-library instruction events
Occasionally, the library's Research Instruction Center (RIC) is used by other groups on campus, usually for training purposes. This classroom cannot be booked through the Registrar or the online event room reservation system; reservations in the RIC are made at the discretion of the Coordinator of User Education. Library instruction takes priority in this classroom; campus groups should be aware, especially during the academic year, that reservations are subject to change. If your reservation changes, you will be notified no later than ten days in advance. To reserve the RIC, contact Liz Galoozis, the Coordinator of User Education, at egaloozis@bentley.edu or 781.891.2692.
