Search Alert Feeds via the Library Databases

Many of the library's databases offer customizable search alerts via RSS.  You can be alerted when the latest issue of your favorite journal is released or when new research in your field is published.   For a full listing of databases offering RSS feeds please visit: http://blogsandwikis.bentley.edu/library/researchhelp/index.php/Search_Alerts_%26_RSS_Feeds

What are Feeds?

Often referred to as RSS or syndication, feeds provide headlines and a corresponding summary that is automatically updated as new information is published to a web site.

"There are two types of Internet users, those that use RSS and those that don't. This video is for the people who could save time using RSS, but don't know where to start."  Watch this brief video from Common Craft that explains what RSS is and how it works.

Subscribing to a Feed

In order to subscribe to a feed you will need to have a feed reader, often called an aggregator.  Some popular readers include:

Browser-based Readers   Web-Based Readers
Your web browser may already have the ability to read RSS feeds using Live Bookmarks

Using a web-based reader has the advantage of allowing you to read the latest feeds at any computer.

*Please see Wikipedia’s entry on aggregators for a full list of desktop and Web based readers.
