Library Services Desk

The Library Services Desk is located on the main floor of the Library. Members of the Bentley Community can check out and return library materials at the desk.

Borrowing from the Bentley Library

Library materials are checked out at and returned to the Library Services Desk. A Bentley ID serves as a library card.

Books and Audiobooks:

  • The normal checkout period for books and audiobooks is four weeks. These items can be renewed one time as long as another patron does not request them.

DVDs and Videos:

  • Popular DVDs/videos checkout for three days, and cannot be renewed.

  • DVDs/videos from the Faculty Collection may be checked out by students, but are for library use only. Students may checkout headphones and use the preview room located on the lower level in order to view this collection.

USING "MY LIBRARY ACCOUNT"

"My Library Account" allows students, faculty, and staff to request/renew materials online, save searches, and perform other account management tasks. Sign-in to "My Library Account" using your Bentley email address and network password.

Borrowing Materials from the Brandeis University Library

Students, faculty, and staff can checkout a special borrowing card at the Library Services Desk in order to obtain materials from the Brandeis University library. Patrons are bound by the borrowing policies/rules of the Brandeis library and are responsible for any fines/fees accrued while using Brandeis library materials. All items borrowed from the Brandeis library must be returned directly to the Brandeis library. Questions regarding borrowing cards should be directed to the Library Services Desk at 781.891.2168.

Interlibrary Loan - Borrowing from Other Libraries

Books and journal articles that are not available at the Bentley Library may be requested through our Interlibrary Loan (ILL) department. The Interlibrary Loan staff contacts other area and national libraries for the requested materials.

  • Interlibrary Loan is a free service for all Bentley students.

  • All Interlibrary Loan requests should be made via the online system ILLiad. Login to ILLiad with your Bentley e-mail address and network password to complete the online request form. The form is available at http://library.bentley.edu/libservices/borrowing.asp.

  • Books requested via Interlibrary Loan (space!) will generally arrive within five to ten (spell out ten since five is spelled out) business days. You will receive an e-mail notification when the book is available for pickup at the Library Services Desk.

  • Articles requested via Interlibrary Loan may be received in one to seven days and will be sent to you electronically. You will receive an e-mail notification and download instructions.

If you have questions, please contact the Interlibrary Loan Department at interlibloan@bentley.edu or 781.891.2301.

Reserves

Reserves are items that an instructor has set aside for an entire class to use. Reserves may include books, videos, audiocassettes, software, etc., and have a predetermined checkout time. Students can use the online catalog to search for Course Reserves by instructor's name or course code. All Reserves are checked out at the Library Services Desk. Electronic Reserves, also known as e-Reserves, allow instructors to make articles or book chapters available online via Blackboard course sites. To place items on Reserve, contact Barbara Rayburg at 781.891.2311 or brayburg@bentley.edu. General questions about Reserves should be directed to the Library Services Desk at 781.891.2168 or circulation_desk@bentley.edu.
